28 Sep 2005Tonight’s simple pleasure is owning a home with a wood burning fire place!
On a night like this when I believe it is still too soon to fire up the gas, it is nice to crunch through the first of the bright red maple leaves and make my way to the wood pile. I grab a handful of “whatever-that-was-we-cut-down-last-year” and light ‘er up.
The day is made complete with the warm glow, the warm aroma and the warm… um… warmth.

mmm…
we have a fire place in our room. At one point I was very excited about it. No longer so. It has some sort of bedding stuffed up it in a big plastic bag so that rodents don’t fall down the chimney and icky smells stay out of our room. A chimney sweep was once called to clean it out, and refused because it was structurally unsound. We’ve now put a big piece of cardboard in front of it, which actually makes it look much nicer. Ask the little unmarried one, it doesn’t look too bad.
