I watched a bit of the 77th annual Academy Awards last night. I noticed that one of the nominee’s for the category “Achievement in music written for motion pictures ” was Al Otro Lado Del Río. It was heralded as the first nominee in that category that was entirely spanish. It turns out that it won the award. It was a neat song, and (based on the other nominees) quite deserving of the award (even if Antonio Banderas couldn’t quite do it justice on the program… it was saved by Carlos Santana).

However, what bothers me is that the Academy has no problem nominating a spanish song (and… it appears.. a French song). However the primary argument for not allowing “The Passion of the Christ” to be nominated was that it was considered a foriegn language film. The requirement, if I recall correctly, was that 80% of the dialogue had to be in english.

That seems a great injustice.

Sports Illustrated’s Don Banks is reporting that Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Randy Moss is going to be traded to the Raiders for a 2005 draft pick, a 2006 draft pick, and a player, possibley Napolean Harris.

Could there be a more perfect team for Randy?

I finally made it back to basketball last night. We had about 18 guys.

It is easy to spend a lot of bench time with that many guys, but it gave an incentive to play well. If you won, you got to keep playing.

It’s a lot like life.

I am not a huge Nascar fan at all. I do, however enjoy watching competition. ANY competition.

Last night I watched the closing laps of the 500. At the conclusion, I called my friend who is our church’s youth pastor, and ALMOST ruined his night. He is a big Nascar fan, but was also working on preparations for our youth group tubing outing. Apparently he taped it. When I called to tell him it was over, he very quickly told me to hold my tongue. I almost gave him the results.

I have never had to watch a sporting event tape delayed, where I did not know the outcome.

Jeff Gordon did win though, and that’s OK with me. The more I get to know Nascar fans, the more I realize that No one likes Jeff Gordon. However, I have yet to get a good reason for that. Some have told me that it may be more because of his fans, than he. But again, I have yet to actually meet a Jeff Gordon fan. Everyone I come in contact with has joined the “cool-club” of not liking Gordon.

The perception that not liking Jeff Gordon appears to cut against the grain of popular culture. However, if EVERYONE feels it is sets them apart, to speak poorly of Gordon, it has now become the popular thing to do. Therefore, to truely by counter-culture, one must become a Jeff Gordon fan.

I just found a cool feature on this blog site. I can actually adjust the date of a post, while I am creating it, to make it look like I posted on Sunday, even though it is Monday Morning… I can still keep my promise of a once a day post.

My main gal and I got out for an hour tonight for a romantic night away. We visited two very fine establishments. Chipotle and Wal-Mart.

We dropped the girls off for a good Cookie making session at my grandmothers.

It is starting to snow a bit. I just activated the “Winter Closing Information” tool on our stations website. I don’t expect much more snow tonight, but just in case, I wanted to make everything ready for them so I don’t have to wake up too early in the morning.

As it is, I will probably set my alarm for 5am, so I can look outside and see what transpired.

I was listening to Disk 2 of Aerosmith’s “O, Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith Hits” on the way to work today, and started thinking random thoughts about the Rock Ballad.

In my opinion, Aerosmith can lay claim to the greatest rock ballad of all time, with Dream On. Disk 2, however, contains their hits “Crazy, Amazing and (from Armageddon) I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”.

With the exception of the latter (which I think they only performed, I am not sure they wrote it), they all seem to be in an attempt to recreate the greatness that is “Dream On”.

Speaking of “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”, that song was used during a scene in Armageddon where Liv Tyler is getting all “Kissy”. There is something wrong about having your father sing in the background while you get all “kissy”.

I watched the first episode of the new Survivor season tonight, or at least the first half of it. I think that show has run its course. There is only so much you can do to keep it interesting. I think they have run out of them. When all was said and done, it is a bunch of people who supposedly have real jobs (Hair Stylist, Bartender, etc), but I an convinced that they are all aspiring actors. Those who aren’t drop dead beautiful, are at the very least, facinating looking.

We turned it off and cleaned the toy room… Much more fun.

It is Wednesday… I have to find something to say, or the guys will give me hard time.

There… I guess that did it.

I stayed home from work today. I was up until 2am this morning working on some web projects. That is a bit of work for a guy who really doesn’t function much past 10. It was rewarding though. I was able to complete 2 big projects, and send them on for final review. I was also able to find out what is on TV past Letterman’s monologue. Not much really. Letterman, then over to NBC for Conan, than Carson Daily (with musical guest Robert Downy Jr.???).

It was kind of cool though, Downy was backed up by a cellist who I got to know when he used to play for Fernando Ortega. I would never have seen that had I not been up at 12:30.

The late night led me to take a few extra hours this morning, then I thought I may as well stay in town and work, than make the 30 minute commute to the office for what would have been a 90 minute work day.

I had to be back in the valley for a court appearance at 1:00 (nothing too big, just a probate court appearance for a family member). It was a little funny. Our hearing lasted all of about 3 minutes. Nothing too dramatic. My dad commented that, had the weather been better, he would have suspected a tee time for the judge.
